I'm actually a Remo guy and since it already comes with Emperors on top and Ambassadors on the bottom, I'm all set .

Just need to tune them up and get it set up the way I like it. Then I'm ready to roll.

Man those rack toms were easy to tune up.

Still working on the floor tom a little bit but getting the stands and cymbals aligned the way I like it.

Going to tweak them some tonight and really play them tomorrow.

Then will take plenty of pictures.

I'm just so stoked that I finally have a the (affordable pro level set) I've been wanting for a few years.

Hi all! Just pulled the trigger on a brand new 5-piece Saturn V MH Exotic Soundwave in Deep Water Maple Burl to replace my 6-year old Galaxy Burst Saturn III's, which I bought second-hand three years ago. Sizes are 10" x 7" and 12" x 8" rack toms and 14" x 12" and 16" x 14" Floors, with a 22" x 18" kick.

I absolutely love my Saturns and have never really thought to go anywhere else, but I fell in love with the Deep Water burl when it first came out and thought I'd take advantage of all the new tweaks that Mapex have gradually introduced in the newer marks.

I'm picking the new kit up from Graham Russell Drums in Fareham this Friday, when I'll also p/x my kit - needless to say, I'm quite excited! Will post piccies when I have them.

also, have any other Saturn owners had any issues trying to get the floor toms to tune properly?

Yep, that's the one - like gazing into a bottomless blue pool.

Mind you, however awesome it looks I'll be surprised if the band notice - I previously went from a natural finish Yamaha to the current Galaxy Burst Mapex and may as well not have bothered. I guess I'm not alone in this. I dunno - banjo players, eh?

Got a galaxy fade Saturn too and looking to get a new kit but I just am not sold on the current finishes. Could be a deal breaker for me.... Have messaged Mapex in the Uk to find out if they have any plans to launch new colours.

This is what I got now. . . still waiting for my 14x14 f/tom and my 8x8 tom since mid Nov. I also have a 12x14 f/tom still new in the box. When I get the rest of my drums I'll rack mount it.

I know Mapex may not offer the widest range of finishes, but I have to say the MH Exotic ones are really nice, especially seen in the flesh. My actual all-time favourite was the Black Panther Velvetone Butter Burst - really wish I'd pulled the trigger on one of the kits, but at least I have the snare. Still love the old Galaxy Burst though, especially under stage lights.

Very nice natural finish Saturns, drummerMD!

I do know that they have a Natural Maple finish on the Saturn V's....it was out of my price range but it's amazing. I got the Blue/Red Hybrid Sparkle finish instead.

The Red / Blue hydrid is still around. They tell me "other" finishes are special order...... waiting for a comeback to see what's on offer!

Yeah but hands down the best way is to hit them on a daily basis
    Ludwig Classic Maple 22x16,10x8,12x9,16x16
    7" Moon Gel Practice Pad
    Sabian HHX Legacy

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing

You know, you bring up an interesting phenomenon.
I play most every day and yet my cymbals get dusty after a while. I think the irregular surface of a cymbal gives dust particles something to "grab". The bashing and vibrating isn't enough to dislodge all the dust.
And I am way to impatient to stop and remove covers every time I want to sit down and play. Not to mention putting them back on. Now, If I had a drum tech...
    Proudly playing:
    Doc Sweeney Drums
    A bunch of snares
    A bunch of cymbals

    Off-Set double pedals

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

Welcome to Drum Chat. I have not used that combination but would encourage you to go for it. Only your ears will be the final decision if it works for you or not. Head experimentation is one of the fun fundamentals of owning and making a drum kit your own.

Please keep us posted on your findings and opinions.
