Alright alright alright! It's good to be back! I used to be a regular on this forum but haven't posted in over six years. At any rate, I just acquired a set of Saturn III's(see picture). I've been wanting a Saturn kit for ages. I stripped them down this weekend, polished them up and reassembled last night. Now I'm wondering what batter heads to throw on them. They have the stock clear Emperors that came with them but I wanted to check and see if there's a 'secret sauce' for these maple/walnut shells. I have a set of coated Emperors here but I could also grab a set of clear G2s or EC2's at the shop tomorrow. Would love to hear everyone's input! Again, it's GREAT to be back.IMG_20200518_080114_01.jpg

Congrats. Nice kit. I think a clear two-ply would rock that kit.

After a bit of a lull, Picked this up yesterday. Mapex Meridian Birch/Maple Hybrid Black Edition Viper. Love the finish. Almost looks like it is moving when you look hard at it. Not a kit to play whilst pissed or on hallucinogenics.

Love that Mapex brought back the Birch/Walnut Saturn shell and also that they made a hybrid kit. Maple/walnut bass drum and Birch/walnut toms.. Good on them, Cannot wait to hear them.

MDK I’m liking those new saturns also. I am wanting to step up from the meridians not that they’re bad just the sound of saturns is amazing!

I actually got rid of my Saturn III and kept my Meridian Maple kit. Loved the Saturn, but, to me the Meridian kit sounds better. I'd stack that Meridian kit up against any of the Ludwig, Tama and Pearl kits that I own or have owned.

Have only used my Meridian Maples as a practice kit until now. Took them out on a gig last weekend. Sounded great. Probably the best bang for the buck I've ever bought as far as drum shells go.
