Hi Dan...Fantastic for just playing 4 weeks! You are developing a bad habit with your left hand. Be sure to keep your index (1st) finger as the fulcrum with your thumb and not on top of the stick. You probably aren't aware of it but you let the index travel from top of the stick to being the fulcrum. Get in the habit of holding the sticks the correct way right from the beginning...you'll be glad you did.
There's a lot to be said for Time Honored tradition and value.

Sounds good! I'm impressed by how fast you've learned. When I first started I did the same thing you're doing: listen to your favorite songs, and play along to them. The only thing I can suggest for you is to work on your grip. Here's how I grip it: About 1/3 of the way up from the butt of the stick. I rest the stick between my thumb and index finger(more specifically between the first and second joints on my index finger.) Leave the rest of your fingers free to act as a spring of sorts. When you strike the drum, let the stick naturally bounce back, and don't forget the snap of the wrist. I'm sure there is a lot of information on the internet, but that's just my advice. Keep up the good work!
