I will try to get some better pics this next week during our next gig. I had a PC melt down several months back and lost all my pic's.
    Heres a distant shot.

    From here they look awesome.

I have to ask, do guitarists put guitars in front of drums just to be annoying or are they really that disrespectful? LOL..

I love that snare. Small but still has some warmth. Great crack. The first time I heard one was outside from another drummer. I loved the way it sounded and outdoors too! I also have a maple DW collectors series snare and while I like it, I just love playing the Akim snare.

Nice looking setup 1tribe! Is that some sort of a custom bass head with those guitar parts sticking out of it??

    LOLs! Thanks everyone.

If you notice my floor tom has black hardware, I have a matching 10x8 now Im not using because the 12x9 tom has chrome hardware. I have a 12x9 with black hardware on order with Pearl. Then I will have to decide if I want to try to get some black hardware for the kick drum or just leave it alone.

Thanks! Im really starting to appreciate the 4ply maple sound. I had a different set once before and I would always choose my old birch BRX over the MMX kit. That kit was awesome looking too, emerald fade. I wasnt into the hanging floor toms (16x14, 14x12) and kinda prefer a 20x16 over the 22x18 that was the kick in that kit so I sold it. I was also playing more "rock" events even though they were mostly outreaches, lots of outdoors stuff and hotel banquet rooms. I liked the sound of the birch shells, (still do) they cut through a stage set really well, fast attack, fast decay. Now my venues and style has changed a bit. Lots of acoustic instruments, guitars, djembes and vocalist. The venues are mostly small churches now and Im liking the warmer-smoother tones of the 4ply maple for this....plus it hides my "not so great drumming"!

Nice set up man. Very cool. I love playing on hardwood floors. The wood floor has such a reflective quality and projects the drums volume out past the stage.

    Welcome to DC.

    Hello everybody.

Well, Im a 54 year young past drummer (20's) and decided to revisit my drums. Just took delivery on a new VBX 5 piece in natural birch and are they beauties! The tone curls my knickers.

Man, what ever anybody says, it's not like riding a bike! Timing is off, speed is off and coordination is off. Set it up with hat and snare on the right and play right hand open due to a back injury and nerve damage to right foot. Back to basics and rudiments all over again.

Been reading through and there's LOTS of great talent here and looking forward to contributing where I can.

Welcome to the drum forum Ribkick! Nice to see more and more people are joining.

I think that you may just benefit from your transformation to open handed lefty! I have been considering doing it as it is... Open handed is so much better! :-D

Nice kit as well. I love that natural finish to it. Just slap on some new heads and that baby will sing!!

Does Pearl make their own heads? Or do they have head companies make some?
