First post, thought I would start here in the Tama thread.

Nice kit's! Those Crestars are very cool, I just sold a set of Granstar Customs this month. These are my Superstars, 22, 12, 14, 16.

I love the way you have the toms set up. That is how I set up a 5 piece as well. It is so easy to move between the snare and the toms.

I completely agree, plus I do like my ride in closer. That's the biggest benefit for me.

Oh and on a more humorous note, I was teasing if anyone caught that post about using the drumheads upside down for tone. They definitely have a sound like no other when hitting them like that but I had just put the heads on there to get them up off the floor as my next goal was to try to use the pins on the TAMAs. But when I just play them with the Evans that came on them, I have nothing to be unhappy about. They sound awesome.

So to date, I haven't actually changed out the heads.

I've never owned Tamas, but I have played a Starclassic Bubinga set at a gig once, and I was very, VERY impressed.

The tone, the projection, the attack, and most of all THE VOLUME! They were all at 11, I didn't want to stop playing them!

A friend of mine also has the Superstar Hyperdrives, and they sound fantastic. You can hear his band (and his drums) at www.myspace.com/swimwearjuniors

I'm listening to them now and I agree. They are a very good band! I am really enjoying Coffee Culture. If the other selections are as nice and clean as this.

    Thanks for the link.

Ugh you said it. I just found an A Custom 18" Projection Crash and New Beat Hi Hats for 225, Paiste Signature 16" and 17" Full Crashes for 85 and 100 each, an A Custom ping ride (then I would have one washy ride and one ping ride) for 130, and some more assorted cymbals for good deals. Now I just need to come up with the money.

Seems like the Tama chat is dying out here!

What does everyone think of the Tama heads that come on the set? I got the Tama made clear ones, not the Evans, and they surprised me! I wasn't a fan of the bass head or the snare head, but the clear tom batters weren't half bad! They had a really "fat" sound to them. Nice and deep.

I think the mfgr's do a good job of getting a great supplied head for the higher end kits. With my Saturns and TAMA Bubingas the two ply clear head sounded the best to me on both kits and those were supplied by the manufacturer.

I liked the stock heads that came on my Superstars as well.

I agree. The stock heads on the Superstar Hyperdrive's we got were good enough that swapping wasn't necessary. The guy at the store said the Tama stock heads are some of the best in the business.
