I'm not certain to be honest.

Where I picked it up was very rural; your typical farmhouse. The room it was in was carpeted, no smoking could be smelt at all, (I know smoke as I'm an ex-smoker). Other than one small windows, there was little to no direct sunlight.
I'm actually quite perplexed at how it did 'yellow' so much.

I wish I could answer this question myself.

    Bass Drum finished.

Recovered Reso head, new Evans EQ3 Batter.

Wow. I thought at first they were made that way....like a "vintage pearl" reproduction. The antique color lugs add to the look. Until I saw the areas under the lugs, LOL. I'm not sure if you'll ever be able to lighten them up by polishing. Looks like it's pretty deep set...must have been some type of UV or chemical reaction in the plastic. At least they look uniform on all the shells.

I've let go of trying to change them back to white. It is too far gone to restore without resorting to paint thinners etc.

With a polish and clean, everything is coming up really well. It's going great and I'm happy.

Nice score. You will def like them.

I don't want to beat a dead horse but you might try a bit of an auto body rubbing compound that is designed to reduce scratches, to restore the finish. I would say try a small spot maybe on the bottom of the bass drum to see what kind of results you get. If you lighten it up some, you might be able to get most of the brightness back.

Yeah it looks like an intentional finish and looks cool.

Had a 2010 Superstar kit, they are great and you will love them (have SC B/B's now so you know why I sold the Superstars).

Honestly, I really like the "aged" look. AND.....it's truly AUTHENTIC in this case. I think I would pull the wrap off the bass hoops, strip them and stain them a nice medium-dark wood color. Wood hoops would look awesome against the aged pearl finish and pewter hardware. Then, maybe add a Fiberskyn reso head.

    That's a great suggestion; thanks.

For the next strip-down/maintenance in a year or so perhaps. I've got enough on the plate now just trying to get them to a healthy state.

I think the wood may also make the wrap appear more white as well. I know the feeling; I have several projects waiting for attention. I need to get my drum room cleaned up, organized & ready for winter. Once the snow flies, I'll need something to do inside the house on those long, snowy weekends. The problem is, I can't really do any kind of strippers, stain, paint or work with chemicals in the house. I have a Chihuahua with asthma....

Duuuuude! Those are absolutely stunning. The premature yellowing only adds to the character. Really nice kit and perfect configuration.
    Proudly playing:

    A bunch of snares
    A bunch of cymbals
