So basically all the Rockstar/Swingstar stuff was PM? Interesting. As I said, I wasn't in the market back then. And the vintage Tama stuff I've been around was higher end stuff.

I knew the recent lower end stuff was Poplar, that's why I said Tama "uses". When was the switch? 2005?

I knew there was a reason I liked my Rockstar add on toms. They are 10 years old this year.

Tama introduced back the Imperialstar in 2007 with 100% poplar shell which meant the end of Swingstar & Stagestar.

It looks like what I like to call a "special buy" drum. I worked at Guitar Center for a couple years and we would get stuff like that all the time. GC's buyers work deals out with manufacturers to get items that weren't in their catalogs. "OMG!! GUITAR CENTER EXCLUSIVES!!!!1" We used to get these little 3.5x13" steel shell snares from Tama all the time. Tiny little firecrackers.

It looks like it's a poplar shell kinda like the current Imperialstar line with a maple outer ply and a couple coats of clear laquer. The low serial number adds to my theory that it was a limited run for GC. Probably out of a run of 5000 or 10000 drums. I'd put it at a $99-129USD retail price point especially with the Made in Taiwan stamp on the badge.

Hey guys here in the Tama thread (and anyone else who happens to read this)!

So, I've been away from the forum for a while, but I always have to make my appearances. Anywho, I've been extremely busy lately. My drums haven't even been set up in my house for almost 2 months until a few days ago when I set them up! Reason for this tragedy? Well, I joined a new band :D I am constantly bring my equipment to our bassist/vocalist's house. He has a kit, but I normally bring my rack tom, snare, cymbals, etc. We are writing and recording all original music! This band could actually take us somewhere... We are planning on gigging a lot this winter since I won't be playing any sports except for training for spring outdoor track. Over time, we want to really do something with this band and we have the connections and the talent. Things are really falling into place.

I'll keep you guys updated with progress and anything else that happens! I will be adding some new drum items to my kit soon, so when the time comes, pics will come.

    Hope everyone is well!

Well, I'm a shorty....the 13" snares (I have a Pearl 13" piccolo that I also use now and then) allow me to bring the toms in a lil' closer, as well as my double pedal's axle can be keep at the shortest length possible. Plus I also favour a higher pitched snare to cut through a live band. Again, how I set up is also depending on the music situation. The good thing about my Starclassic snare is that if I need a mid-range sound, I can tune it down to that range and it will still sound decent. Mind you, I'm keeping an eye out for a 13x6 or even a 13x7 wood snare to do that job.

I do 13" snares as well. I'm tall (6'2), but I really like my double pedals to be close-ish, which just don't work with a big snare.

I was just playing that same set at my local shop, minus one floor tom. It sounds amazing. My local shop wants 1k for the shell pack, I'm trying to talk my church into buying it to replace our PDP FS series kit. IDK if theyre gonna go for it though.

Bubingabill, that kit is simply stunning.
I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a starclassic kit, been looking for months.
