Heh, I got my black wrapped dw for less than the gretch also. And the one I bought brand new was only 700 bucks more than that gretch.

The only two constants I have are DW and Zildjian.

I paid ~4400 for my 6 piece kit, with an employee discount. The finish on the kit made a HUGE price difference. It cost nearly $1000 more to get a lacquer specialty finish over a satin/wrap.

Oh well... I am considering selling my Birch/Bubinga however. It's not doing it for me anymore, too dry.

I did sell my unborn child to pay for it though. If thats any consolation. Haha, actually most of the money came from selling gear I already had... a yamaha stage custom, some cymbals, a snare and then some money I had saved up.

Got a response from DW! Mark was his name. He said that there is a 5-6 month lead time on all Exotic orders due to the steps involved at building the exotic drums. He said wrapped drums have 4-5 steps to make the drum with 2-month lead time. Exotic shells have 20 steps to complete the drum give it a 5-6 month lead time. He couldn't pinpoint when my replacement drum would be complete since it has a backstory.

I also heard from my dealer yesterday as well. He stated that dw said it would be shipped from California at the end of this month

Haha, yes. Mark is the man!!! Hes the guy I am dealing with. I ordered my kit on 4/16/12, and it will be done 7/27/12. 3.5 months is NOT BAD. I got a lacquer finish (as i mentioned, which is supposed to have a 4-5month lead), but I also got an exotic snare (waterfall bubinga oooh, which is supposed to be 5-6month). From what i've heard in the past from others experiences, they usually finish before the time they quote you.
I'll be sure to post pics when I get it =)

Also, it seems that DW ships monthly. They finalize a schedule for the month, and ship it all out on the last day or something.
    Too Much Stuff.

Yeah definitely, thats the good thing about wraps, its very uniform.

As for lacquer, they actually request that you send them a shell you have so they can accurately match it.
