dw are on my top 3...they make beautiful drums
I play a PDP LX with all 5000 and 9000 DW hardware so I am close, I want a collectors kit in spider pine veneer over maple. As soon as I can justify to my wife why I need such a kit I'll buy one but right now it is not in the cards.
i play a dw jazz fusion kit, tom sizes 10, 12, 14, sometimes 16" when i have room. i love the kit, and want another one that produces a little bit deeper tones, all the dw 9000 hardware and some 5000 hardware has never failed on me... very very nice drums in my opinion.
I found when I first got my DW's that they didn't seem to have the "low end" drums should have...based on my previous experiences.
I could even tend to agree with someone who's just recently purchased a dw kit for the first time, that they may not like it.
I'm not sure I liked mine the very first time I set it up and played it. It seemed tamed and laid back.
Boy was I wrong. After a couple weeks of getting used to the way it responds to sticking and such, it took a while to realize how WOW they really sounded. And it wasn't until they were mic'd that I really started growing into the sound coming from them.
Now I know it's the kit I'll be using as often as possible to play.
And because it is a wrap and not a lacquer finish, I don't have to be too concerned about the finish getting damaged.
As far as the hardware, I purchased it a year ago to gig with the Gretsches so I already have road ready hardware. So I really am not worried about anything getting damaged and yet, I'll still have a top notch kit available for gigging.

Nice Thread!!!
I've been playing a DW Collectors Maple for a year now.
10&6 snare/ 12 x 9/ 14 x 11 and 22 x 18.
Small kit I know...but sounds big.
I just recently ordered a 10" and 16" to complete the kit.
It's the best kit/ best sounding kit I've ever played!!!!!
add the 9000 and 5000 hardware....killer !!!!
As Bish said....when mic'd, the really sing!!!
Sound guys love them!!!
I've played pearl (studio Birch/ export) Yamaha (tour custom/ stage custom), Sonor, etc. and have found these to sound the best to me!!!
I will say, that DW is a preferred sound....not for everyone...
to each they're own!!
Cheers

My first post at drumchat.com ;-) Hello, here I am!
I own „only“ a Performance (it is expensive enough for me;-)) with 10“, 12“, 16“, 18“, 22“BD, 14“SD and I love it. I´ll never give it away! The best choice I ever made. :-)
Unfortunately the 18“ floor tom was faulty. So I´m waiting for the right one.
Is there anybody else with a performance kit? I only see collectors owner.
I see, I need new pictures by then I show you these ones. ;-)

DW drums and Paiste cymbals.
I dont own any DW drums. But I do use the hardware. Great stuff. And from what Ive seen, great drums.
hey u should get on the chaat thing so we can talk im bored
this has to be the nicest finish i ever seen....
I agree that is one of the prettiest finishes ever!!!
If I could have any set I think I would get a Collector's Series with that same Kurillian Birch fade, but with satin finish hardware. I would get the same fusion sizes I have: 10", 12", 14".
As it is, I have the "poor man's version" of that kit - the PDP LXE with Kurillian in a charcoal fade. I love my kit!

No no no !! look at mine look at mine!! Oh I wish I had gold hardware though!!
I don't know exactly how they do it, but they just sound fantastic- The shells have twice as many holes drilled into them as do my Mapex Orions, and the BD spurs use 4 holes per spur- Mapex-zero holes, and yet the sound- pureness of tone, I don't know how else to describe it- they're not louder, they just sound better!! (There are pics of both kits in my albums)

Hi all I thought I would poke my head in the DW thread and throw in my two cents. I havent played many kits (not even DW! why am I here!) so I cant speak for the sound but I do have a Pacific kit (because there is no way I can afford a DW kit) and love it. But Ive always wanted a DW kit. They are so classy to me, I love the round lugs, finishes, hardware everything. Also what I find cool is the new shell options: The VLT and the X shell. The idea of making a hybrid kit with different tones for different drums is interesting to me. While Im sure its not much of a sound difference, if I was recording that would be an option I would want. Also the edge snare seems awesome, any DW players here have one?
Here's a marketing pic of the new Eco-X drums - available in natural or desert sand finish only, and only sold as a 5pc shell pack. List price is $4583.99, but the big online retailers are advertising it at 40% off for $2749.
