That Morgan Rose Alien/green snare is what makes the kit sound nice for now. I like the change to metal. Have to get me a Gretsch metal snare one of these days, maybe a COB.

Thanks - I remember looking at your post when you got your Cats - all those boxes - a nice feeling when the drums arrive! I like that finish on your drums. I think it's a Polyester bases finish as well - is it not? All I know for now is that Gretsch uses Nitro Cellulose lacqure on their Custom USA shells and they use a Polyester-based finish on the Purewood Renowns that are made in the Taiwan factory. I'm thinking that your Cats are made there too so they may use the same finish - but I don't know that for sure.

I got some information off a woodworkers site that explaines what that finish is - if you want I can post it here or in a PM.

It's the hoop finish that comes with the Purewood line.

It sure is. There's nothing like delivery day! And thanks to you, too. I love the tobacco fade finish. It's what sold me on the kit, in fact.

I'd love to read up on the poly finish info as I may ket an 8x8 keller maple shell since there's no add ons for the cat maples. I realize it wont be a dead match but it could make for a nice 15 footer. (looks great 15 feet away!) LOL!

Any impressions of the Renown kits. I saw an unbelievable price for a 4-piece mod kit (less than $1,000 new in the Inca gold I like). What do ya'll think?

Sorry - got a little side tracked and almost forgot to send you this. It's some information on Polyester finishes and they talk a little about Nitro Cellulose as well.

RED SPARKLE LACQUER FINISH - too much man (really dating myself here - I'm sounding like "Maynard G Crebes")!

I love Red Sparkle. And, Gretsch only offers it in a wrap (Nitron)on their Cusotm USA drums. This must be a Polyester based lacquer - I'm guessing, not sure.

I want a Gretsch snare drum 4x14 in Red Sparkle Lacquer! Man - too many drums - not enough time in one lifetime.

GRETSCH CATALINA MAPLE IN RED SPARKLE LACQUER FINISH

Just to add to Lesizmore's post..........

    Maple shells – 6ply toms, 7ply bass, 9ply snare
    Red Sparkle Lacquer finish
    Matching maple wood hoops
    GTS tom suspension system
    Toms mounted on bass drum
New Gretsch branded ball/socket tom mount
    2.5mm triple flanged hoops
Natural finish inside (no silver paint on drum interior)

As much as I like gretsch drums I would like them to stop, just for a year, using the silver sealer. So we can have a choice and see what we like better.

    Sizes:

    18” x 22” Bass Drum
    8” x 10” Tom
    9” x 12” Tom
    14” x 14” Floor Tom
    6” x 14” Snare Drum
    Free 16” x 16” Floor Tom

All this for about $850 - incredible!
