Oh my word... I think its time for another drum set!

HAH like my parents would go for that. Hopefully someone on craigslist doesn't like them, but again HAH yea right. I doubt anyone can find any fault in these drums, including myself. I think I have found a better sound out of these than my Starclassic Birch set! Weird I know, but maybe I just don't like the sound of birch as much? Nah, I like them a lot, but finding that right tuning is difficult!

I'm thinking that your Cats are made there too so they may use the same finish - but I don't know that for sure.

I got some information off a woodworkers site that explaines what that finish is - if you want I can post it here or in a PM.

    Some nice drums there!

I heard some sad news lately - and if you think about it, it's not too surprising. The sad news is:
Not only is the economy bad now but it's going to get a lot worse. Rumour has it that there will be some major drum companys going under within the next few years. I'm hoping Gretsch hangs in there. This is what I've been hearing from some retailers and wholesales people in the last year or so. One drum retailer where I live shut his store down over a year ago. I was talking to him a few months ago and he said he's glad he got out when he did. His said "it's a terrible time to be in retail and it's going to get worse."

Everybody's nervous about what's going to be in store in near future (sales-wise).

So - guys-n-gals..........better get those dream drums sooner than later (that goes for me too - regarding my Gretsch Custom drums!!!).

    Cheers to you all,

    Kona

Didn't mean to bum you out man. Just thought I'd share some info with my fellow drummers. I could have kept it to myself but it's something I'd appreciate hearing if I didn't know about it. Hey - the good side is.........it may never happen and everything will continue the same in "drum-land." It's good to get a heads-up.....right?

    Take care,
    and
Do what you can now to get your dream kit together. Just a feeling I have......

    Cheers,

Thanks for the heads up Kona. I think I would be more worried about custom drum companies, than the major companies. After all, the major companies have weathered difficult economies in the past.

    I hear ya pb.
That's the very same comment I've made a few times while talking about this subject. I keep getting the answer: "yes, but things are a lot more complex now - we have huge businesses going under these days........more so than in the past."
It seems like we've come to the top of the "pyramid scheme" or near to it. Our whole economy is built on growth - if we don't have growth we're not doing well. What happens at the "end' of growth? It's got to stop sometime. It's like we're heading for a brick wall going 100 mph and nobody has the answer on how to stop before we hit. We always hit. We may be coming to one of those "hit" times.

    Hope not

Don't mean to cheer you up too much

I'm going out of town for a week......annual requalifucations (law enforcement stuff - yuck! ). I'm getting too old for this.

    SHEESH YOUR PUSHY!

But, I will play along. I love that Diamond Fire Sparkle finish. And I might be buying those Red Sparkle Cat Maples because, for the price, it is a steal and I want a maple set to add to my collection! I only have my Tama Starclassic Performer Birch.

But, as for the classic maples, I don't know. I mean, I think that bubinga inlay is only driving up the price. I wouldn't bite on it. I like the looks, but there are nicer looking sets with the same sound quality for less or equal money.

    Thanks.
By the way - that Diamond Fire wrap on the Renown Maple is very nice, and that 2k street price is not bad. I paid $2450 cdn (about $2066 usd today) for my 6pc Purewoods - right from the Taiwan factory - and I was happy with that.

I really like the New Classic with that Bubinga inlay. That 14" tom is a rack tom - right?
