Looks great. Sound better with age.

Mapex Sabian Ludwig Saluda Assorted Snare Drums
Yes -- that has been the case.
the 24 bass and the 13 & 15 toms sound wonderful at any batter head tension.
The 18FT is a bit less cooperative.

Ah, Simply the 'Jasper' era! And that bearing edge. It does look great with age, that's for sure! Your kit is one of the best Gretsch kit I've seen, period!

Jaspers....yes.
I custom ordered these shells in February, 1977.
In August of that year, I got a call from my music store that the drums had arrived...."bring a pick-up; these boxes are big".
Well....that would be expected because I ordered 13, 14, 15, 18, & 24.
When I got to the store, we were getting everything loaded.....the shipping labels reflected....

My grandparents bought these in 1965 from a family friend who bought them new in the spring of 1964. My dad played them briefly then packed them away in cased for years. In the early 80's he unpacked them and set them up. I was 8 years old. That started my drumming and music journey. This set, according to the catalog, came with a floor tom. However, when my dad got it it did not have the floor tom, but it did come with a red felt baseball bat muffler Supraphonic. I still have that.

Are they the Brooklyn series way to go man let's rock n roll 1234
What are ya thoughts on the Catalina series for a low end crap run around kit.lets rock n roll man 1234
Catalinas are the Gretsch Taiwan-made-lower-price-tier provision for people that don't want to pay a lot of money for a kit that can still be gigged.
Gretsch currently makes four other lines of shells that are higher quality....

For you Gretsch geeks, a drum manufacturer and distributor by the name of GEWA Music recently acquired the license to manufacturer Gretsch drums, from DW. All production of the drums will now be with them. American production will remain in South Carolina and only supplied to American stores/buyers.
This article breaks down the specifics of the arrangement: https://www.musicradar.com/news/gewa...-gretsch-drums
A friend of mine texted that announcement to me yesterday.
So somebody at DW caused Fred to go elsewhere? Maybe this new group will be even better.
The DW agreement never made a lot of sense to me.....no more then Gretsch taking over the marketing for DW.
To me, they are competitors in the high-end American custom drum market.
The main difference is that DW is much more robotic/mechanical with good results....
While Gretsch is hand-made craftsman drums with good results....when I did the tour at Ridgeland with Paul Cooper, there were 13 employees....small.

I guess the dirty details will come out at some point. Quite a significant change though.
