I found a few old photos of Lenny White back in the peak of RETURN TO FOREVER.
Back then he was playing USA SSB shells:

We have a giant gig coming up next Saturday night.....................expecting a crowd of 400.
I'm at home this long weekend practicing and getting ready for the gig by playing through the set-lists..........................after 41 years, I'm still so GA-GA over my 1977 Gretsch USA Custom shells......................I feel very fortunate to be the owner and player of such quality instruments....................warms the soul.

I went through all the songs today..................just short of 3 hours...................guess what ?..................the drums sound great.

Hey, I'm new to the Gretsch family. I just picked up a 3 piece Renown Maple kit. I got a great deal on this set. It's a 10, 16, 22. I'm assuming originally, there was probably a 12" tom in the mix as well, but it wasn't included or available with this particular kit. Oh well. I've been trying to figure out the approximate age of these drums, but I'm having no success. All my Googling efforts bring up data for VINTAGE Gretsch drums, but nothing for the modern age. These guys have no serial numbers. Can anyone help me out? If it helps, the 10" tom has the GTS mounting system.

I'm going out on the limb and say that your kit is from the '80's just by the square badge:

Thanks late8, but these drums are WAY too clean to be 30some years old. Plus, the rack tom has the GTS suspension mount, which, to my knowledge, didn't come out till the mid 2000's. I'm guessing somewhere between 2006 and 2013.

The re-issue of the 2nd square badge spans 32 years 1981-2013. The 2004 Gretsch catalog shows the GTS system already in place but the 1999 catalog still shows the tom mounts drilled into the shells so yeah maybe you're right 2006+??

Yeah, no holes drilled in this tom. And I believe 2013 was when they went back to the round badge. So I'll go with 2009, plus or minus 3.

Yep, 2013 was when I ordered my USA Customs and it was the first year back with the round badge:

All three sound pretty close but the USA Customs for me. My next Gretsch kit will be in that vintage maple satin finish.

    Satin Antique Maple:

But don't see it on their website. If it's discontinued, I'll go with Satin Walnut.

Here's a few screenshots from Mike Johnston's new USA kit. He opted for the gloss version of the antique maple finish:

My brother wants to get a new acoustic kit. Hasn't had one in a long while.

Budget is tight so it's between Catalina Club Jazz and Catalina Maple. The Maple is a better "value" in that he can get 5 PC for only a little more than 4 PC Cat Club.

Thoughts? He's leaning towards maple 5 PC with 20" kick.
