Yes -- that has been the case.
the 24 bass and the 13 & 15 toms sound wonderful at any batter head tension.
The 18FT is a bit less cooperative.

Ah, Simply the 'Jasper' era! And that bearing edge. It does look great with age, that's for sure! Your kit is one of the best Gretsch kit I've seen, period!

    Jaspers....yes.
I custom ordered these shells in February, 1977.
In August of that year, I got a call from my music store that the drums had arrived...."bring a pick-up; these boxes are big".
    Well....that would be expected because I ordered 13, 14, 15, 18, & 24.
When I got to the store, we were getting everything loaded.....the shipping labels reflected....

My grandparents bought these in 1965 from a family friend who bought them new in the spring of 1964. My dad played them briefly then packed them away in cased for years. In the early 80's he unpacked them and set them up. I was 8 years old. That started my drumming and music journey. This set, according to the catalog, came with a floor tom. However, when my dad got it it did not have the floor tom, but it did come with a red felt baseball bat muffler Supraphonic. I still have that.
