    Default mapex m-birch cleaning

    Hi
I want to give my kit the once over just to give it a extra bit of sparkle and extra life, i believe it's Lacquered (mapex m-birch), what's good to use, and cymbol polish for sibian b8's.

    Cheers Mark

Your kit is painted just like a car.

I take my lacquer kits apart every so often, clean them with a damp cloth then put a coat of high end carnuba wax on them. Stay away from furniture polish, it leaves a yellow film.

I had a friend that worked for museums and high end antique collectors restoring all kinds of things. He told me to use guitar polish. Great shine and no residue to turn yellow.

As for the B8s I am not sure, maybe another B8 owner will chime in.

I've found Eagle One nano-wax to be excellent for polishing lacquer finish drums. Make sure that you use a microfiber cloth so that you don't risk scratching the finish. You can buy both products at Wal Mart stores - I'm sure many others as well. These are pretty common and inexpensive products.

As to cymbals, I don't clean mine, so can't help you there, sorry!

I've been using Fender Guitar Polish on my lacquered drums recently. The finish is already a bit beat up, but seems to work really well.

Trick Cymbal and Metal polish on the cymbals and the chrome.

Guitar polish will do the trick, For those quick once over cleanings a lint free cloth until your ready to use the polish again.

Go to your local Harley dealer and pick up a bottle of Harley Glaze, use it on all painted and chrome finishes. It has a beautiful shine and is long lasting. I use it on my bike and drums.

The cymbals is a personal taste thing. They definitely sound different with the tarnish build up, etc... Depends if you want the bright sound of a cymbal from when you got it, or you like the "darker" sound they have dirty. I haven't cleaned mine, but I started cleaning my son's (which are my old one's) and it makes a big difference. Mind you they are almost 30 years old and this will be their first cleaning.

Powerchord guitar degunker and polish is THE BEST stuff out there today!
It works wonders on lacquered drum shells, chrome..whatever..! It leaves a deep shine, covers small scratches and leaves no greasy residue! Highly recommended!! -Les
