There are big three companys that produce the "highest quality" drums. Yamaha, Pearl, and Dynasty. All have good reputations and are probably the best. There are other smaller companys, like Ludwig and Premier, but they don't have good reputations in the marching world, at all. Bad drums to buy, if your buying a drum, look into one of the three.

Mapex has also recently started making marching drums. And has gotten great reviews, but they are so new, they are not one of the "big" guys yet. But from everything I've heard, they make great marching drums.

Yamaha sfz snares are great. Perfect for rim shots. If you want tenors, get mqt quints, or sextets or sumo drums (they're like sextets, but bigger)
