So I would like to know, what is the best way to clean the finish on your shells. I've been using a dust cloth with nothing else on it, just to get the dust off, but that leaves little scratces and doesn't clean very well. So what does everyone else use?

Try a feather duster or equivalent. Air in a can could be an option. Something I need to do, as well. If you have seen my pics, my drums have quite a dust collection.

I can't rember the last time i cleaned my drums. I will have to get some cymbal cleaner next time i am in town so i can shin my cymbals. I like shinny things

I think tomoro i need to have a good clean on my drums!!!

Use some air in a can to clean out the hard to get places like in the ring of your snare. To stop some dust and dirt getting on your cymbals and drums put a sheet over your drums when you are not playing. When you have vistors over take it off so you can display your drums!!!!

There are also micro-fiber cloths for cleaning drums that work well. I also use guitar polish if they are lacquered.

Trick Cymbal and Metal polish for cymbals and chrome.

I would stop using Windex if I were you. I used it for a while on my lacquered drums (although not in a while) and it did damage to the finish over time.

Go to your local Harley dealer and pick up a bottle of Harley Glaze, use it on all painted and chrome finishes. I have a lot of pride in my HOG, just like my drums, and I like them both to look there best.

windex contains ammonia which is corrosive!! liquid Ammonia is used to etch certain metals and also as a dissolvent!!!! thats not good man. I would only use a polish on laquered drums.

Eagle 1 Nano-wax works really well to bring out a brilliant shine, and has no harmful additives.

But make absolutely sure you are using a clean micro-fiber cloth. This is the safest type of cloth for your finish IMHO...it will not scratch.

I was fighting the urge to respond in a similar manner.

It seems that we get new members here in waves, and the latest wave has been a pretty big one.

NEW MEMBERS!! There is a Search function on this site, which allows you to find threads with information pertaining to many, many topics which have been discussed over and over again. This is certainly not the first thread asking about how to clean drums....there have been many.

Do yourselves a favor and USE the Search funtion before you start duplicate threads. Nobody minds answering, but you can often have your questions answered by either reading an old thread, or by "bumping" one by inserting a new question into it. Otherwise we end up with sitations where 4 different members are asking the same question and starting their own thread at the same time, and it just isn't necessary. Don't just pop in as a new member and rush to ask questions.....EXPLORE the site, and READ what is already here first. Thanks.

I used to just wipe off dust with something soft, then once a year or so, take all the hardware off for a deep cleaning. Wood furniture polish on the shells, hardware cleaner on the metal parts. Last time I went to the grocery, I found this:

I used it with a microfiber cloth and cleaned the entire kit without disassembly. Worked like a charm.
