    Default intro/hip hop questions

hey whats up everyone here at drumchat! well i am new to "drumset gear". meaning i am decent at playing, but i play what ever I have. So my question is, first, what would be a good snare for playing hip hop? and i will have so many questions later, but thanks in advance.

If you want that classic hip hop/dance "pop" to your snare, a piccolo cranked way high will be awesome.

The best hip hop kits are usually electronic, in all honesty. You'll struggle to replicate that sound elsewhere.
Check out ?uestlove though, he uses a lot of compression to get that classic hip hop sound. That kind of experimentation is cool.

yeah, something small cranked way up high should get that pop your looking for -might not have to be a piccolo though....experiment at your local music shop and see what you like

Check out where they get their samples from as well - like, the drummers who actually played on what they're sampling, then check out what kind of kits they used. Live hip hop is a very different experience to what you hear on the album.

as far as i can see live, all the big hip hop guys use a thinner snare ...it not quite a piccolo but its a high pitch, there's usually a click track and huge compression
