im thinking i might try to get my money back on my platinum snare before the 45 day trial period is up and then save for a custom one and make a custom kit over time instead.

I can say that the X7 is a great kit. I had one for a short time a couple years ago. Poplar shells..but with the right heads...they sound mighty nice!

I have the same LXE charcoal fade kurillian birch set (minus the 8" tom) and I FULLY recommend it over the X7 kit.
The X7s are nice, but they are poplar shells I believe and have a much 'thinner' sound than the LXEs. The LXEs are 100% maple shells (the birch is an outer veneer) and have that typical fat DW maple sound.

BTW according to DW there will not be any more Kurillian Birch kits from PDP or DW. I asked about getting an 8" add-on tom and they said there will be no more Kurillian due to supply issues. So look at the LXEs as 'limited editions'!

    Hey everyone,
I have noticed that PDP drum sets are really cheap compared to drum sets by other companies, even the "high end" ones like the Platinum. Does this mean they are not as good quality?

Not at all Yohin. The PDP kits have an excellent reputation in the intermediate kit market.
