Default Getting back in the groove!

hey everyone Im new here... So I pretty much put down the sticks when I started college. I guess I just became really busy and didn't have the space for my kit in my apartment. Well its winter break a year or two later and I picked them up again. I felt a little off and need to work on some timing issues.... But never the less here is a video of my come back jam session. Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks for checking out the thread.

Don't worry about it Bjjfighter. When this happens, it usually shows up again within 24 hours. I usually only happens with a new member's first post.

Hey Bjj...Welcom the the Forum. Let me tell you, if I sounded THAT good when I finally returned to drumming, I would have been real proud of myself. You have a lot of good things going for you and I doubt it will take you long to feel comfortable again. BTW, looks like a nice set...be sure to post some pics.

Hey Bjj, Welcome to Drum Chat!!

I'll tell you what, it takes some brass you know whats to post up a vid when you're shaking off the rust of a long abscence from playing!

Yes, you can see the rust evident, but looking past that it's also evident that you have some acquired skills too. You'll be back to normal in no time at all.....all it takes is the practice time for everything to come back to you.

Hey, bjj, Welcome to Drum Chat.

That was real good. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Think of where you'll be in a few more months of "getting back the groove."

    Glad to have you here!

Hey everyone thanks for the comments!

Fiacovaz, I will post some pics of my kit hopefully tomorrow. Its a pearl SRX session custom in vintage fade. I really like the kit and I love all my cymbals. I do mismatch the cymbals between brands. I know some people like to stay within the brand, but I found different cymbals from different manufacturers that I loved so I went for it and am happy with the outcome.

    Cymbals:
    Hihat: 14" Paiste Soundedge signatures
Crash: 18" Zildjian K custom session
ride: sabian Hand hammered raw bell dry ride.
    splash: some $20 sabian
china: zildjian not sure on the model

    drum sizes are
    8", 10", 12", 16" toms
    14" snare
    22" bass

I got a chance to listen see the video today, and I am very impressed. As the others said, the rust is there, but not nearly as much as one might think. You've definitely got the chops, and once they're polished up again, you will have something very special again!

That's really good for a two year absence. I was in a similar situation and haven't played in four years and unfortunately I don't even have a set to practice on. I found some electronic drums though at a store and tried them out. Yeah, I never was the best or anything, but it made me realize how much practice and work I need to get mediocre again. Your looking great though so keep it up!

Sounding really god there - i just wish we could hear the kick better - drawbacks to the whole cam in a basement thing i guess - sounds like you've got the toms and kick all sounding fairly focused, so with the cymbals going it gets difficult to hear.

I especially like the hi-hat/snare groove you get into towards the very end.
