Have you thought about putting a tom to your left vs up high off to the left?
I personally love a tom on my left with all of my kits.

Picked up a new DDrum Hybrid 6 and added an additional 12" tom. Swapped out the heads for mesh heads. Makes an awesome quite practice kit with great feel. I am triggering Addictive Drums 2. It triggers very well.
