Yes they are, my friend has this set, and they are indeed mesh, and are actually very nice e-drums for the money, i was very impressed.
hey...
i posted a different (rather long) post the other day and i guess i messed up (as it never showed up here)...
anyway, not enough time to type it all again now, but long and short, i'm interested in getting a e-kit (am moving from a silly littele DD-55)...
i tried a couple this past weekend (Yama. DTxplorer and RolandTD3? something)...
the snare on the Roland was mesh (i think) and it really felt good (as compared to the rubber of the DD-55 and the Yam.)...
so, i think i MIGHT want to go with a mesh headed set (though still not 100% sure)...
was scanning this eve and found some pics of:
Alesis DM5 Pro Electronic Drum Set
this set (and some of the Alesis sets) seem to have mesh heads, but i could not find anything in their write-ups about the type of heads...
can anyone comment?
thanks...

as they say...
DUDE!!! thanks!
i really want a mesh head set (feels better and better for my house - less pad noise to bother the other occupants - 9 year old son cannot sleep when i'm pounding on the rubber dd-55 pads! so practice has to happen BEFORE he goes to bed and that is when i normally HANG with him!)...
if i could download a set right now, and print it off, i would (that would be a pretty neat trick, hugh?)

?
hey, i saw an Alesis (DM5 - NOT DM5 Pro) today and the heads were rubber (i knew this)...
i asked the guy if they had any of the "white" heads in the back (they did)...
he brought it out and it is like a plastic sheet or sorts...
i wonder, does Alesis have 3 different types of heads:
- rubber
- mesh
and
- white plastic
?

AH!
i think i know what the deal is...
the guy at the shop said that you can replace the heads with other heads... perhaps your friend had gotten it with the head replaced already....
this make a little more sense now... thanks...
As far as I know, there are only 2 current models.
DM5 - Black rubber pads
DM5 Pro Kit - White/Ivory 8" actual drum heads
I just recently bought a DM5 Pro, through my research I'm almost positve I remember seeing one that came with mesh heads. It was on the previous model I believe. The heads on the Pro kit aren't too bad. They have some pretty good rebound, and aren't too terribly loud.
I looked into the availability of mesh heads before I got the kit.
If you want the DM5 Pro, but want mesh heads, the cheapest route is eBay. Get the kit at an actual store, then hop on eBay if you want the mesh heads. Some one is selling them for like $20-$25 for a set of 5 dual-layered mesh heads. Also I know Pearl sells 8" mesh heads, as does Roland I believe. The Pearls are around $10-$15/ea, and the Rolands... of course around $30-$40/ea
hey... thanks.... after some more looking, i realized that the Alesis does NOT have a metronome.... a BIG saling point for me.... am prob not going this route now...
Can't say about the Alesis but the yammy does have a metronome.

What is mesh, soz i sound dumb
Some electronic drums have mesh heads (screen-like material) instead of rubber pads. Depending on the company, some are single-ply, double-ply, heavy material, thin material, white, black, etc... Mesh is easier on the hands than rubber, but some say it's too bouncy. To each his own when it comes to preference.
Here's a photo of a 10" black Pintech, a 14" white Hart and a 14" white w/black dot Blastech. If you look closely, you can see the seam of the floor tiles beneath them.
hey i know the guy that makes that dot mesh! haha
