Ive got a question about my snares. Should the metal ends be right on edge /snare rim? or should they be on the drum head? I'm thinking although not sure that I might have the wrong size snares on my snare drum. the snares looks to be for a 13" snare not a 14" snare. A picture of the bottem of a snare drum would be very helpful thanks.

The snare wires should just fall short from the bearing edges on both sides. As seen in rats pic. Nice pic by the way

I had to ask the same question Friday. The guy at the drum shop suggested Pearl or Pure Sound snare wires. I asked him what the difference was, and he said the Pure Sound would give a slightly warmer sound. Since I was buying for my piccolo snare, I went with the Pearl. But, since they didn't have a clear Ambassador reso head, I haven't installed them yet. But it had Pearl snares on it before (Pearl snare, after all) and I really loved the sound.

Puresound are more in your face. I tried a blaster on a steel snare and TOO much! The Pearl sounded better in that application.

Ok how many strands should I go with? this one was 16..... it sounded ok.... but I dunno how much the effect was on it being that the snares was for a 13inch snare. I play metal Rock and trying to learn some jazz as well.
