Hey! I have a cowbell... I took an old wrist sweatband and put it over/around it. Not too tight, but snug- by the clamp. It cuts down on the sharp attack- just a bit. You can slide it toward the open end to tighten it to adjust the sound.
I have alot of percussion pieces. They're all like spices you add to food to adjust the flavor.
