    Okay I know I will probaly get a lot of flack for not knowing this but what exactly is a ghost note? I see it in a lot of sheet music and hear about it but I dont know what it is.

    It's a really, really spooky note.

    I crack myself up.

    Seriously, it's the opposite of an accented note; barely audible.

    RD's got it. It's just basically a note that you play much more softly than a regular hit.

    PD... Want to listen to a classic example of a ghost note? check out the kick pattern on Zeppelins "Kashmir" Listen closley to the Kick on beats one and three. BTW I have a thread on this. I made a bet with a fellow drummer. So Far you all have proved me right!!

    Another classic example of the great John Bonham and ghost notes...."Fool In The Rain"

    CHAD SMITH, the drummer for the red hot chili peppers, he uses ghost notes alllllll of the time, they further inhance your playing, and make it sound soooo much more profesonial and fills in spots that have an annoying gap.

    They're used a lot to create a dynamic in playing drums. So you're not bashing everything all the time.
