ALDO, That's a great video, sir. There is nothing to laugh at. Lemme tell you a story....
My father was a marine. When we were kids growing up, like most families, we'd go out to eat sometimes. If my father saw a man in uniform from any service branch, he'd buy them a drink as a thank you and a camaraderie thing.
My father died almost 10 years ago and we had a military funeral for him. Taps, flag folding and rifle salute. I never cried so hard or felt so proud of my father. My cousin flew in to NJ from WA for the funeral. He wore his Army dress uniform to honor his uncle. My father was proud of his nephew who was the ONLY one of us kids to serve, although he razzed him terribly about serving in the wrong branch. LOL! That was their gag, and Mike would tease dad back about the jar head screwing his hat on and such. That was exactly why my cousin wore it as a final nod to his uncle.
Now, when I take my family out somewhere and I see a service man or woman, I offer them a Thank You, and a drink, and I silently thank my Dad for the example he showed me.
God Bless us all.

May I offer a Salute to your Father. Your post is what service is all about. Thank you for sharing your personal story.
Let us not forget those who have and are serving, either in or out of uniform, let us thanks those who have and have not made it home.

Thanks guys, I truly appreciate the thoughts. Not to steal the thread or get into politics, but I hear so much anti war stuff where I live that I get so weary of it. The people who complain the loudest seem to forget that the men and women who are doing the fighting are the ones protecting your rights to your opinion.
You dont have to like the war, or why we went there, but show a little respect for those who are serving you. Ya know what I mean?

I'm a vet too!
My family is filled with vets also. Here's a run down:
Grandfather - U.S. Army - WWII
Grandfather - U.S. Army - WWII, Korea, and Vietnam
Grandmother - U.S. Army WAC (Women's Army Corps)
Father - U.S. Army
Stepmother - U.S. Army - Desert Storm
Brother - U.S. Air Force - Desert Storm
Cousin - U.S. Navy - Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom
Wife - U.S. Air Force
Father-in-law - U.S. Air Force - Vietnam
Me - U.S. Army
Thanks to all you who have served. For those of you that haven't, thanks for your support. It is very rare for a service member to get kind words from a civilian. It definitely makes you proud and humble at the same time.
Great vid, Aldo. You make us all proud.
CD, God bless you, your family, and your father. I know I'm not a Marine, but Semper Fi anyway.
We need a smiley performing a proper salute!
Oh, and if you haven't seen it, grab a Kleenex and watch "Taking Chance" on HBO the next time it's on. True story about USMC LTC Mike Strobel, who volunteered to escort the body of USMC PFC Chance Phelps to his home in Wyoming. It is a reminder that there are still folks out there that honor and appreciate the sacrifice of our brothers and sisters in uniform, even if they disagree with the war. Seriously, great movie.

Thanks to all here for serving!!!
I have a brother that is doing very well in the Air Force, and my Dad is just about finished with the Air National Guard. They are very proud of the USA; although, not very proud of the crap we have in it.
CD... with respect to your father and your belief, this is getting into a sensitive area that sparks fierce debate and we need to avoid that in here. I'll just say that of course we all owe a great amount of debt and gratitude for veterans and those in the military that protect our freedom but we also must respect those that believe that war and killing isn't good for anyone. We can't always think that "anti-war" means "anti-veterans" or "anti-military-servicemen".
Lets bring this thread to a close very soon. - Thx!
