Question about wraps...

If any of you have seen my home made snare, the job I did on the finish was sub-par. I would like to redo it with a wrap. And if it goes well, I'm thinking of building a 4 piece jazz kit some time this year to match.

My question is, does anyone know of a good site or video explaining the best way to wrap a drum? I have looked around but can't seem to find anything on youtube that would help the most or any sites that explain it from start to finish.

I know there are a couple of you on here who have done this and I just want to make sure that I do it right the first time!

I redid my one snare recently and used contact cement. I was sent very thorough directions along with the wrap.

Are you planning on using double stick tape or contact cement?

If you are going to use contact cement I can write out the instructions for you.

Thanks John. I was thinking of using double sided adhesive...My thought was that the hardware would hold everything firmly in place?

So, when I order the wrap, will it come with either tape or cement? Probably depends on the company you oder from huh?

The place I ordered from reccomended contact cement so that was the set of instructions I received. The contact cement was puschased seperately.

Larrysperf redid his Tom with double stick so he may have those instructions.

I'm sure it it easier than contact cement. One slip up and it's time to start over.

Hmmm, no slips for me...I can already see myself making a huge mess out of this! LOL

Actually it was surprisingly easy. Wrap had an extra 1/2" so there is a little room for error.

Cool, ordered it...with the cement. Should have it done in a couple of weeks or so. I'll let you know how it goes!

i just use a wrap from a certain company.

some of the heavier wraps I have removed are just glued at the overlap and the hardware keeps them in place..............for the soft vinyl/tolex type wraps you should glue 100% using a contact type glue.....they just love to wrinkle and bubble otherwise................there are some spray bomb/rattle cans of glue that are easy to use.........when I did my kit I found a "mac-tack" preglued vinyl that was as easy as pie to do......you just peeled off the wax backing paper and smoothed on a little at a time...........good luck with the job............I'm sure you'll will be happy with the results.........and you will be the proud owner of a "custom" drum.........

i used tape, but im not using the snare so it doesnt matter. im not planning on using tape again cause of the risk of gradual air bubbles. lil bit o crazy glue on the ends should do it.
