Keeping the humidity down is the most important thing you could do. I don't know where you live, so is the temperature in your basement relatively constant?

As to cleaning, I would keep your drums covered when they're not in use, and then dust them regularly. As long as the humidity in low, you shouldn't have a problem with the hardware, but you could use a chrome polish on them just as a little extra protection.

We put humidifiers in guitar cases to help the maple not dry out. I wouldn't think you would want it too dry. Of course, I could be wrong!

You are correct Charly. I was thinking about basements that I remember as a kid. I have been without them for so long, you were right in suggesting that the humidity should be controlled, but not made too dry. Every house will have a certain amount of natural humidity. Hey, I'll bet KG could speak about humidity!

As long as your drums and hardware dont feel damp you should have nothing to worry about.
