There's a great little music shop down the road from my apartment that gives drum lessons. Its 85 dollars a month for four half hour lessons and I was wondering if this seems like a moderate price as far as lessons go. The guy giving the lessons seems to have great credentials but I wanna make sure 85 dollars a month isn't a rip off. Any help guys?

That's about right...lessons in my area go for $20 to $25 per 1/2 hr.

The lessons over here in England are about £15 per 1/2 hour, so I guess $20 - $25 would be about right with the exchange rate.

My recommendation is to sit down and really think about what you want out of your lessons and discuss those goals and expectations with the teacher.

Keeping an open mind on your side as well let them explain how they would go about getting you where you want to be.

There are a lot of teachers that simply throw all of their students in the same books and plow through the same pages. This is not necessarily a bad thing if those books are needed in your journey.

Just some things to think about.

From a relative newbie's perspective, this is sound advice. I'm currently questioning my teacher as I don't feel he has my interests in view, just the $30.00 at the end of 30 mins & we'll see you next week.

I think you'll find that the fees are just about the norm. I paid $80 per month for once a week lessons.
