I would try maybe putting a cloth or something down then clamping it on. I'm not sure though. Probably better suggestions coming your way.
I wanted to get some input from all the smart & creative folks on this forum.
I have a new kit that I want to care for in a way that will make it look fantastic years from now. I take good care of any drum that I own, but I have never been successful in minimizing pedal rash (i.e., where the pedal clamps onto the BD hoop).
Does anyone have any suggestions to minimize or (dare I say) totally eliminate pedal damage to the hoop? For the record, I don't clamp too tightly, but certainly enough to avoid losing the BD during a song. But it takes it's toll after 10 years on the same kit. I've found that taping the hoop didn't provide the protection I thought it would (not to mention the hoop had a "gummy" residue that was difficult to remove). Maybe there's a better way...
FWIW, I play DW 5000 & 9000 pedals and my hoops are lacquer (not wrap). Thanks in advance for any tips!

Pearl makes a hoop protector that goes onto your bass drum hoop to save it from your pedal. There are a couple of other brands too. I can't give you the link, but the model number is Pearl HPP2.
Hope this helps.

RHD - you are a class act. It potentially looks like a $5 solution. I thought I was going to have to sell my first born...
Now I just need to see if that solution works...

Yep I use the hoop protectors too. I've seen a couple of different brands, but ask for one at your local drum shop and I'm sure they have at least one type that they sell. Pick up an extra Falam slam pad while you're there and protect your bass drum batter head too.

Scottie...two things come to mind: 1. As many have already indicated, you can get a pair of rubber hoop protectors at your local drum shop. 2. This is "Old School" but works just as well...get some Dr. Scholl's "Moleskin." You can find this at any drug store. Cut and trim to size what you want on your hoop. I used this stuff for close to 40 years. Until I started using a newer patch for the bass batter head, I would use one mole skin on the batter to protect the head from the mallet of the pedal.
There's a lot to be said for Time Honored tradition and value.

I use the self-adhesive rubber piece for the inside of the hoop to protect from the jaw of the pedal, and I just use a little folded over kleenex between the hoop and the pedal platform to prevent scratching there. Of course, I don't know if this will work over the long haul, and I don't tear down and set up my kit a lot at the moment.

I dont worry about it. I just always clamp my pedal to the same spot.

My Mapex drums came with a protector too, and the Axis pedals have rubber stops on the pedal so I'm good there. I'll need to use something else for my hi-hat-to-bass-drum attachment though.

I was just thinking...my 24"'s I had to take the rubber thing a majiggy off for the pedals to fit, but my 20" recording & maple custom the pedals fit. My 24's are older (92') and the other 2 are only a yr or so old.Dunno if that's something Yamaha fixed or what. All the $$$ I've given them they can afford to hire someone to fix it.
Band-Aid's?
SG, the title made me think you were gettin' a foot rash from the pedals somehow. LOL
I was gonna say, "That's a new one on me!"
I have a little piece of rubber which I got when I bought my kit way back. It's shaped like ] and slides onto the rim of the bass drum. Not sure the product's name but I'm sure you can find one. It's prevented any damage for me.

Gibraltar makes a rubber pad for the top and bottom of the hoop that is held on with double sided tape. I have had one on my hoop for the last five years and it has worked beautifully.
