You guys prefer wood, plastic, felt, ...? I'm a felt beater guy myself.
How 'bout counterweights for the beater shaft. Do you use 'em? I've never used them in all my years of playing.

I have a DW pedal, and the beaters are felt on one side and hard plastic on the other...I use the plastic side...it gives a good hard THUMP, but also a sharp...."click", I suppose....and I will never wear it out, lol
Word to the wise : don't mess with the drummer.

I use an iron cobra with a wood beater. The wood give the kick a punchier sound that I like.

Felt here. For some reason, I just do not like the over tones a wood beater makes on a bass drum.

Felt. I get enough punch out of the kick itself.

I used to play felt beaters (felt side of the DW beater)
but recently changed to plastic (plastic side of the DW beater)
nice click and (for me) easier to play double bass

I usually use the felt sides of the beater. But I would probably use the plastic ones for a large open area.

I think I've changed my ways. I recently just turned my beaters to the plastic side, and I really like that clicky sound they make. It's almost like they are triggered.

Does anyone know if this causes damage to your heads? I have a Remo Ebony Ambassador head with a Remo Falam Slam pad on the batter side of my bass.

I use Pearl Quad-beaters on the softest felt side. I like my bass to bump, but not too harsh.

Felt and no weights, I never could feel any differance really when I tried the weights, so I took them off and have never tried them again.

I use the plastic side of my tama's. I love the clicky sound it makes and feels alot more responsive when doing alot of double bass or faster kicking in general.
