Yep, it's called G.A.S. Welcome to the world of financially challenged percussionists.
I find myself on a daily basis either stepping foot in a drum shop or shopping online for something I probably don't need. A new drum set? more cymbals? Sticks? stands? whatever I can find? I thought I had a problem, but man, so many of you guys on here have the most impressive collections I have ever seen. Is it common place for drummers to be broke from buying so much stuff? More stuff than we probably will ever need?? Love it!

It's called GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
It's the best ailment you'll ever become afflicted with.
However, to clarify, if you don't have enough space for all the things you want, that can become another form of detriment to getting everything you find that you think you should have.

I'm going to pitch a new show to TLC: Drum Hoarders
Can I be the first episode, please!
GAS is a dangerous thing. Fun, but dangerous.

Another term drummers have is OCD D Obsessive Compulsive Drum Disorder

"We don't stop playing because we grow old.
We grow old because we stop playing."
"I wish that my playing reminded people of Steve Gadd. But they seem to confuse me with his little known cousin... E."
"Snare drums happen."
I think I'm perfectly happy with what I have. Sure, there are a few more cymbals I'd like to have, and I'd like to re-wrap my Pearl Sessions, but I'm very content with my kits. I really enjoy walking through Guitar Centers and Sam Ashes simply because it takes 1.5 hours in the car to get to one and it's a rare occasion that I can go there. Looking at drum stuff is fun, but I'm really happy with what I have. If I could have anything, it would be more time to play.
"I have too much gear and I'm never going to buy anything else." Said no drummer ever.
Hey Cdeleone - I am relatively new to drum forums and I had the same reaction as you. It had never really occurred to me that I should have a 'snare arsenal'. Lack of imagination on my part. GAS is apparently contagious and can be transmitted via a forum. I am proof - I just recently bought not one, but two, snare drums. Not sure why I really needed the two at the same time- at least that was the sentiment expressed by my wife. But, gotta say, I don't regret getting either of them. I just hope I can control this GAS thing in the New Year!!!
