The X7's are not high-end, but for the money they sound great. If I am not mistaken they are birch shells.
I played one at a music store and it sounded great with new heads all tuned up nice. I went back a couple of months later and with the same, worn-out heads, out of tune it sounded horrible! Just goes to show, it's all about the tuning...

    Peach nailed it.

They are a good value for the money! A lot of drums with a reputable brand name behind them. They had some very attractive finishes too, so they sold really well.

Not sure about that...Ludwig makes good stuff too. It's all about what you like. I had some PDPs up until about 2 months ago, they were birch and I thought they sounded great for the money.

I sold them. I have an 8 piece Pearl Session Custom, and I just bought my DWs...so the PDPs had to go. You can still see some pics of them in my albums in my profile.

Shabutie, if you scroll back in this thread, I posted a description of the new Eco-X drums, and also posted a publicity picture.

However, it is a brand new product for 2009, so I'm not sure you're going to get any feedback yet. My local drum shop is advertising the kit already, but only as an order out. They are a very large shop and don't have one in stock yet.

They are 100% poplar shells. I used one to record the demo stuff on our myspace. You can almost close your eyes and hear dws! Listen to "let us bow down" Click on my/our myspace link. -Les

Those toms would be too small for me. I would want a 8x14 snare with a 8x12 9x13 16x16 and 16x18 toms. The kick would be 24x22 for me. A cannon, but also a Bonham-esque height. Side snare would have to be nice and small. Like a 5x12.

Huge drums! Instead of the DWs I bought, I almost picked up a different one with 13, 16, 18, 24. They were incredible but I don't regret my choice.

I would however like to research and see how much it would be to have DW make me a side snare to match the kit...Hmmm...

I'm a Ludwig guy but next week I'm getting my DW delivered. I'm keeping my Ludwig for gigging and practicing, but keeping my DW in a recording studio esque place. I've got the mixers etc ordered.

I doubt you'll stick with that plan once you find out how wonderful the DWs sound. You'll want to use them for everything.

Over the weekend I decided to break down my Dws and ended up removing about 1/3 of the set. I have plans for all of the leftovers though.

I just thought I would share the new set up.

I'm hoping the drums look good enough to keep you from realizing that my basement is in severe need of new flooring and paint.

G-Mann, that's a beauty of a kit, and your basement,.... mine looks like a dungeon compared to yours!! Walls a crumblin', short ceiling, thin concrete poured onto dirt 80+ yrs. ago. Makes me think I probably shouldn't be down there, since I can only stand straight in between the floor joists! Your floor toms must just rumble!!

    Cheers,
    Russ
