I polish my drums every month before our gig. Twice a year, I do the same wth the cymbals...just dust them in the meantime.

It's a good habit to get into. Once the dust and smoke turns into grime on your drums, it's harder to get off.

I try to keep my drums dusted, and I clean them on a semi regular basis, but not monthly. Since I don't gig my drums, and when they are at the church, they aren't in a smokey environment, so I don't have to worry as much. I clean my cymbals on a yearly basis.

Absolutely not! I have been a huge proponent of a clean kit for many years!
Like Pastor Bob, I keep my drums dusted (swiffered) and depending on how much either one of my kits is out and about, I will once every month or so, wipe down the shells with a microfiber cloth to remove any fingerprints and about every 6 mos. depending, I will strip the drums down 1 at a time to bare shells and polish and protect them with PowerChord guitar degunker and finish protector...I am a nut with this!

dang, you are take might fine care of your drums. I dont clean mine all that often or really ever now that im thinking of it. Im gigging with it almost every weekend so its always on the move and in and out of my bags so it does not dust up too bad. The finish still looks amazing though ( and actually get compliments on how clean the set looks, which i find funny). I have never touched the cymbals either i do all jazz work so i like the darker tone they get with some dirt and dust settling into them.

I clean my drums once a month usually. But I just had a thought to strip them down and since they are satin oils do the tung oil trick to bring the finish back more vibrant that ever. I haven't done this in like 5 years. This takes like two days to accomplish. Jeez I must be nutz to do that again. It's amazing how dust can find its way into the lug casings.

Well I should be getting my new drum heads within the next few weeks, for the whole set (expect snare and bass reso). So when I get all the heads, I'm going to take the old ones off, give the kit a good clean inside and out, polish everything - hoops, lugs, etc, put the new heads on, tune up PROPERLY...then enjoy

Man, you guys make a dude feel guilty!...I used to clean my Rec Cust. constantly when I just got them.I had a can of pledge and a rag next to my HH at all times. And a feather duster(no joke) to go over them everytime I uncovered them.I think the only cleaning they see now is when I change heads.Just a quick wipe around, tune, and back on the rack or in the case.Cymbals, well lets just say I have antique dirt on some of them.
